Blue Apron Review

Blue Apron is an amazing service for people who love to cook but just don't have the time. The kits come with all of the fresh ingredients needed for three meals, including sauces and seasonings, so all you have to do is follow the step-by-step recipe cards that accompany each kit.
How Blue Apron works
Everything is delivered to your door. Each kit contains all the ingredients you'll need. The recipes are easy to follow, even if you are a novice in the kitchen.
What we like about Blue Apron
The ingredients are fresh and top of the line. All of the produce is organic, and the meat comes from humanely raised, non-factory farmed animals. The recipes are very easy to follow. There is a delicious variety that includes meals from around the world along with American classics, such as Cajun Jambalaya and Citrus Herb Roasted Chicken.
Another main pro is convenience! The meals are easy to make, so you don't have to spend all afternoon cooking and cleaning up. I love how fresh and healthy the food is–no frozen dinners here! It's also so much fun picking out each recipe and planning what you will make with your family.
Blue Apron Cons
The cons are that the recipes sometimes don't come out exactly the way you expected them to. Some of them need extra ingredients, or they aren't cooked the way you want them to be. The instructions for how to cook them are vague, so it's difficult to know what you need before you start cooking.
Who is Blue Apron good for?
So, if you are a fan of trying new recipes and don't have a lot of time to make them, or if you are a beginner in the kitchen and want to see what all the fuss is about, then Blue Apron is for you.
Blue Apron Costs
Costs vary depending on the meal plan you select.
Cost is based on 3 meals per week, which works out to be about $10 per meal.
Gift giving is also an option, which can be selected at checkout if you're ordering for someone else. The kits are set up so that you can give the recipient a starter kit for their first week of receiving meals, or they can snag one of your kits so you don't have to spread the cost around too thin!
Blue Apron Compared
Blue Apron is a better value than many of its competitors! It's a little more affordable than Green Chef, which costs about $15 per meal, but the meals are a lot smaller.
It's also a better value than HelloFresh, which costs almost twice as much as Blue Apron at $15.50 per meal. It's truly up to what you or your family need and want from the service. Blue Apron also offers wine pairings with each meal, but they cost extra.
Recipes We Tried
Stuffed Chicken Parmesan
The recipe was fairly straightforward. It came with full ingredient lists, which is always nice for those of us who are visual learners! The recipe cards include step-by-step photos, which made it even easier to follow the directions and make the meal. The only downside was that there were no cooking instructions until partway through the recipe (for adding parmesan and the sauce to the chicken).
How easy are Blue Apron meals to prepare?
The recipes are pretty easy to follow, although a few of them require a little finagling with the ingredients. I had to add some Parmesan cheese to the recipe because it wasn't listed in the ingredient section.
How much food is included in each Blue Apron meal?
Each meal kit includes all the food you'll need to cook for 2 people, or you can choose to select kits with enough for 3 or 4 people.
