Purple Carrot (2022 Update)
The price of a Purple Carrot plan is $52 per week for two people, cooking three delicious meals per week. I encourage you to find out the price of each of their plans before you make your decision because it is a significant amount of money. Purple Carrot plans feature weekly themes that are delivered every Tuesday afternoon. Themes include sweet and savory recipes, salad recipes, pasta and side dish recipes, pizza suggestions, and dessert.
Purple Carrot is a vegan meal delivery service that provides pre-packaged and ready-to-heat vegan meal kits for people who have busy lives. Meals are delivered fresh and made from all-natural ingredients, with a gluten-free option. Pink or blue, it doesn't matter what the Purple Carrot delivery truck brings to your door but they will always be delicious.
Choosing Meals: Lots of Bowls
There are lots of options to choose from when you're deciding what meals you want. The "choose-your-own" option is only available for the $52 plan. You can pick and choose from all of the different meals on the menu. If you're a sweet person, there are dessert and breakfast options to choose from that are otherwise not on the menu. If you don't want to keep choosing meals every week, Purple Carrot has meal plans for specific holidays, such as Thanksgiving, Christmas, and others. Each holiday meal plan features three or four different themed meals with recipes that are perfect for the event.
The Cooking Process: Mostly Straightforward
Cooking is easy and you can do almost all of the cooking in a bowl. The hardest part is baking, which is the only thing that you need to relegate to the oven or a toaster. Purple Carrot gives clear instructions on how to cook each meal, where to make substitutions if you're not comfortable with an ingredient, and where to add additional flavor. Recipes are straightforward, and instructions are easy to follow so you won't ruin any meal.
Delivery Time: Fast!
I was in the best position to test delivery time because I live in NY, which is a great area for Purple Carrot's service. My dinner was delivered by a Purple Carrot deliveryman within a day of placing my order. The delivery man knocked on the door, I signed for the food package, and within 30 minutes my meal had been cooked.
The Taste Test: Absolutely Delicious
The taste test is pretty easy because the food tastes great. I didn't really have any issues with flavor or texture. The flavors were very bold and they kept their consistency through cooking. The upside of this is that you get a lot of food for the price because you can have some for lunch the next day, too. My favorite flavor is the Creamy Butternut Squash Sauce, which is one of the meals you can choose for your own meal plan. The meals are completely vegan, but they have a lot of flavor. Purple Carrot includes about 20 calories' worth of oil to use as a frying substitute.
Who it’s Good For?
Purple Carrot is good for people who are looking for a healthy, convenient, and delicious meal plan. I think it's easy to use them as a meal delivery service. I'm always too busy to cook dinner, so my go-to is the next-best thing: a service that delivers food.
Who it Isn’t Good For?
Purple Carrot isn't for people who don't want to be tied down by a meal plan. I think it might be hard if you have a very diverse taste because the food doesn't taste that different from week to week.
Type of Ingredients
All natural foods
Gluten free option (on the $52 plan)

Pumpkin Pie Overnight Oats was the first Purple Carrot meal I ordered. Fantastic! I don't usually like pumpkin, but that was absolutely delicious. I would eat this for Thanksgiving morning every year if I had to choose a favorite food. Pizza and Garlic Mashed Potatoes with Spinach Salad (Saturday): This meal was absolutely delicious and it was my favorite Purple Carrot meal. I also ordered the vegan Spaghetti Bolognese with Tomato Salad and it was very good.
The Competition: Purple Carrot vs. Sun Basket
Purple Carrot tasted like a really good vegan meal that is not going to break the bank. It was healthier and less expensive for me because it wasn't as packaged than Sun Basket's meals. Purple Carrot had better meals than Sun Basket that were more affordable.
Purple Carrot vs. Sun Basket: Cost
Sun Basket was more expensive than Purple Carrot because they served less food and didn't offer a delivery service to go with their meal plan.
Overall, Purple Carrot did have a better variety of foods than Sun Basket did. If you're not a huge fan of tree nut-free meals, there's always the option to order some for when you're not on the meal plan.
Purple Carrot vs. Sun Basket: Quality
Another reason we didn't like Sun Basket, was because on one of our orders it was delivered without the garlic it said was in the recipe. This then caused an inconvenient trip to the grocery store. When we complained to Sun Basket, you would have thought they would have offered a refund or at least some gesture for that meal kit, but they offered nothing, which was quite disappointing!
For people on a diet, Purple Carrot is vegan. They are completely free of all animal products, dairy, and eggs. They use vegetable oil as a substitute for butter, so if you're on a diet they are a good option because you won't be eating any animal products. Veganism means that you generally eat less because you have fewer animal byproducts. Purple Carrot also doesn't use much sugar in their recipes, so their meals are naturally low in calories.
What Customers Say About Purple Carrot
Customers say Purple Carrot does everything it claims to do. They like the pre-planned menus, and the delivery time is fast. I would recommend them to people who don't want to be tied down in terms of their food choices, or who are on a very tight budget. The reviews of Purple Carrot are overwhelmingly positive. They say the food tastes great, it's convenient, and they like the prices. This is according to customers on Trust Pilot and the Purple Carrot website.
The Verdict: Amazing Value
There are many benefits of eating fresh fruits and vegetables (such as vitamins, antioxidants, etc) but the busy lifestyle most Americans lead often leads them to choose packaged food instead. One thing that remains constant is the need for convenience in our lives. Thankfully, Purple Carrot provides healthy vegan food at an affordable price with less time spent cooking.
The price of Purple Carrot meal kits are amazing and I would definitely purchase them again if I needed to feed a vegan family or friends. It is an excellent investment if you're trying to feed your household plant-based meals, are gluten-free, or want leftovers for lunch the next day.
